Following a virtual meeting of EU Ministers of Culture held on 19 May 2020, Commissioner Gabriel proposed an online conference with the cultural and creative sectors, where the Commissioner herself and key EU policy-makers would meet CCS stakeholders to reflect on what has been done until now in response to the crisis and to plan together for a new future.
Over the course of one month, the Cultural and Creative Sector has contributed with imagination, creativity, optimism, research and numerous initiatives to fill the CreativesUnite - Covid-19 Resource Platform - with content and guidance in times of crisis.
The COVID-19 pandemic has swept the globe, causing a serious health crisis that not only has cost the livelihood of millions, but also has a severe impact on the sustainability of many sectors of the economy, and especially the Cultural and Creative Industries all around Europe.
Despite the disruption to everyday life, creatives remained creative and many hopeful initiatives arose out of this situation. The technological possibilities combined with the conducive nature of the sector have both contributed to the spread of information but also prevented a more complete and cohesive action.
